In 1973 the cooperative of winemakers of the Cinque Terre is born. In only a few years, its scope goes from simply acting as a voice for its members to promoting local viticulture, an enterprise that ensures the protection and the conservation of the biodiversity of a land as extraordinary as it is delicate. Among the numerous achievements of the cooperative are: having stopped the abandonment of the area, the enhancement of heroic viticulture, the growing international popularity of the brand and the protection of the “Cinque Terre” and “Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà” controlled destination of origin denominations, officially recognized and appreciated in all the world.

A spirit of mutuality has always allowed for the protection of individual winemakers from speculative factors. What’s more, it preserves the area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from unsustainable exploitation. The driver towards this approach is the knowledge among the 220 member-owners that unity creates strength and that they are all connected to one another and to the land.

Among the cooperative’s roles is the conservation of all of the infrastructural elements that allow for heroic viticulture, today as in the past: cog railway lifts, a water supply system, trails, terraces, and dry walls, authentic architectural rarities.
